Hide Glue

This glue has been in use for centuries, and still preferred by craftsmen for restoration and new work. This 192-gram weight hide glue is formulated for veneering and has the advantage of being reversible, or repairable if the veneer surface is ever damaged.  It is mixed 50% with water, melted in a double boiler at 140 degrees, and cleaned up with water.  Spread the glue onto the core, apply the veneer after a few minutes, and then press the veneer tight onto the core using a heated metal platen or veneer hammer. We've added some options by packaging the glue in three different sizes.  The small 8oz., if you're just experimenting.  A 16oz package for the occasional user, and a 32oz package for the active marquetry craftsman or hide glue user.

The glue is manufactured by Milligan & Higgins, the US maker of hide glue.
